This is a fun little series of acrylic paintings on canvas, intended to complement my tree drawings.
The first of these little paintings, Three hazelnuts, was made at the behest of The Prince’s Trust, who sell these specially created 20x20cm canvases for a fixed price at the Contemporary Art Fairs. I wanted mine to reflect the style of my current work, but my fountain pens really don’t like the texture of canvas. I remembered a painting pen that I bought a few years ago. It is designed to take any suitably thinned liquid, but I hadn’t really used it before. It seemed like a useful tool to incorporate drawn lines in a painting on canvas, and perfect for the “frilly bit” (involucre) on top of a hazelnut.
The first three paintings all sold at the Surrey Art Fair in September. Conker and Walnuts were exhibited at the 2022 Hampshire Cultural Trust Arts Open Exhibition at the West End Centre in Aldershot and were both sold from my Open Studio in May 2023.
