This is my second version of this subject, a group of yews sprawled over the stones of Wakehurst Place’s rock walk; the first sold straight off the drawing board! This is a little bit smaller and a little bit looser than the first version, but it omits one of the trees. I called the first one Congregation, and it seemed appropriate to call its abbreviated sibling Congregate. There’s a certain similarity to a church organ’s pipes in the way that the central tree flows down the rock.
I used a selection of inks on this piece, starting with indian ink and finishng with a range of coloured inks, all of which are reasonably lightfast.
Ink on Hot Press (HP) watercolour paper, 50x70cm, currently unframed.
